Martinez told manager Brad Ausmus he felt good after a rehab stint with Triple-A Toledo, where he went 5 for 17 in a four games.
“He seemed to feel like he’s ready,” Ausmus said.
The 36-year-old slugger has been out since May 19 with inflammation in his surgically-repaired knee. He appeared in 34 games before the injury and was batting a dismal .216/.308/.270.
