When Nadia came on, I was actually sitting in a split–a straddle split–in front of the TV. I was in complete awe because she was so good. Of course she was the first person ever to score a perfect 10 in the Olympics.
I can remember looking up to my mother and saying, “Mommy, I’m gonna be just like her one day. I’m gonna go to the Olympics. And I’m gonna win just like Nadia.” Of course my Mom patted me on the head and said, “Sure, honey, sure.” But that was the dream. That was when the seed was planted.
