These two characters in Vampire Survivors also have similar passive bonuses; most of which are actually penalties. Peachone is Toastie’s starting weapon, whereas its counterpart, Ebony Wings, is Exdash’s starting weapon. Toastie is a character to try when players want a challenge - many Toastie runs are not going to make it to the 30-minute mark. This guide will tell players, step-by-step, how to unlock this new character.

Unlocking Toastie

Unlocking this character can be tricky. First, the player needs to defeat either the Drowner or the Stalker. These two creatures are variants of Death that can appear in certain stages at certain times. Killing either of these two creatures is not as simple as the other enemies. They are immune to most weapons and status effects. Defeating either the Drowner or Stalker isn’t the end of the process though.

Immediately after these creatures are defeated, Toastie will pop into the bottom right-hand corner of the screen and say “Panini”. While Toastie is in the corner of the screen the player needs to press down (the arrow key) and Enter on the keyboard. If done correctly the player will hear musical notes play for a second. This is an homage to Mortal Kombat 2.

The Stalker

The Stalker is a green variant of Death that will sometimes appear in the Dairy Plant and is guaranteed to appear in the Bone Zone. It’s easier to kill the Stalker in the Dairy Plant than the Bone Zone. The Stalker can only be killed with the Rosary pick-up item, the mine carts in the Dairy Plant, the Pentagram, and its evolved form (Gorgeous Moon). The mine carts scattered about in the Dairy Plant are the most reliable method of killing the Stalker.

Simply keep the mine cart offscreen to the left and the Stalker on the right; then get the Stalker to follow the character into the rushing cart. The Stalker has a 30% chance of appearing at minute eight and twelve in the Dairy Plant. If it doesn’t appear at the 12-minute mark, reset the stage. The Stalker appears at the 10-minute mark in the Bone Zone stage.

The Drowner

The Drowner is a blue variant of Death that fills the bottom of the screen with water; this water will slowly rise over time. The only means of killing the Drowner are the Rosary pick-up item and the Gorgeous Moon; the Pentagram does not kill the Drowner. This creature appears in Gallo Tower at the 25-minute mark, and at the 30-minute mark; however, it’s immune to all damage and instant kills during the latter appearance. The Drowner also appears in the Bone Zone at the 20-minute mark.

Helpful Hints

When the Stalker or Drowner appears onscreen, pause the game for a second. This isn’t required, but a second chance will take another eight minutes of playing - after resetting the stage. Collect yourself, and get ready to press down and Enter when Toastie appears in the right corner of the screen. The game doesn’t give the player much time to (simultaneously) press down and Enter.

Playing As Toastie

Toastie’s passive bonuses are; +100% Luck, +20% Move Speed, -10% Area. -10% Might, -50% Speed, -10% Duration, +10% Cooldown Times, and -99% Health. Luck gets a +20% boost every ten levels until level 100.

After level 100 Toastie gets a huge boost to life; at level 200 it gets a huge boost to armor. Considering it also has the misfortune to start with Peachone, in addition to its huge list of passive “bonuses”, Toastie is easily the most difficult character to use in Vampire Survivors.

Vampire Survivors was released on Dec. 17th, 2021, for the PC and macOS.
